Spennymoor Town Council is made up of 22 Councillors, 16 Spennymoor Independent, People Before Politics members, 3 Labour members, 1 Liberal Democrat member and 2 Independent members.
Elections were held in May 2017.

Councillor Clive Maddison was elected Town Mayor for the year 2018/19. His chosen charity is the Spennymoor Boxing Academy.  The Deputy Mayor is Councillor Paul Humble.

Every elected or co-opted parish councillor is required to notify the Monitoring Officer (within 28 days of being elected or co-opted onto the authority) of all current ‘disclosable pecuniary interests‘ of which they are aware, and update the register within 28 days of being re-elected or re-appointed.
