Spennymoor Town Council officially opened the Skate Park in Jubilee Victoria Park in February 2017.

Skate parks provide a vital space for individuals to stay active and be part of a ever growing, unique community. Engaging in outdoor environments such as stake parks allows individuals to interact with one another, building vital social and interpersonal skills.  Skateboarding is a unique activity which combines physical exertion with precise muscle co-ordination and balance.  Performing stunts improved brain function and stimulate new cell growth in the brain.

Of course, BMX bilking can also use the facilities in Jubilee Park. BMX riding, also known as bicycle motocross is a cycling sport that involves racing or performing freestyle stunts competitively or recreational.  In 2008 BMX riding became an Olympic sport.

BMX biking can help to protect individuals from diseases such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and arthritis, in fact there are many health benefits to BMX riding including:

  • promoting a good healthy heart
  • toning muscles and strengthening low back muscles
  • increased flexibility and joint mobility
  • decreased stress levels
  • improved posture and co-ordination
  • strengthened bones
  • decreased body fat levels
