FEES & CHARGES

The Cemetery fees and charges are applicable to both Spennymoor and Tudhoe

Fees are in respect of a person who

  • is to be interred or in respect of whom the right is granted;
  • is, or immediately before death, was an inhabitant or parishioner of the area of Spennymoor Town Council or
  • in the case of a still-born child, where the parents (or one of them) are, or at the time of interment were, such inhabitants or parishioners.

Part 1 – INTERMENT

For the interment in a grave

i) of the body of a still-born child after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or of a child up to the age of 18 yearsA new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee (normally £56.00) is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying to this fund, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
ii) of the body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 18 years.112.00
iii) of the body of a person under s.46 Public Health (Notification of Diseases) Act 1984560.00
iv) of the body of a person living outside the area of the Town Council560.00
The fees for interment in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted apply where the interment is at a depth not exceeding five feet. For each additional foot or part thereof and additional 30p is payable
v) of cremated remains in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted of any child, still-born after 24 weeks of pregnancy, and up to the age of 18 years, at a depth of not less than 18 inchesA new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee (normally £28.00) is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying for this, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
vi) For the interment of cremated remains in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted of any person, whose age exceeded 18 years, at a depth of not less than 18 inches.67.00
vii) For the interment of cremated remains of the body of a person living outside the area of the Town Council area in a grave in respect of which an exclusive right of burial has been granted of any person at a depth of not less than 18 inches224.00
Fees for searches of register books and for copies and extracts to be taken therefrom56.00 per search

Part 2 – EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS OF BURIAL

For the exclusive rights of burial:-

a) in a grave 8 feet by 4 feet (single)255.00 - However, to purchase a grave for the body of a still-born child after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or of a child up to the age of 18 years, a new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying to this fund, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
b) in a grave 8 feet by 8 feet (double)305.00
c) in a grave 8 feet by 12 feet (treble)356.00

Part 3 – HEADSTONES AND MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS

For the right to erect, in respect of which the exclusive right of burial has been granted:

i) For a single grave a headstone not exceeding 3 feet in height by 2 feet 6 inches in width61.00 - However, to apply for a headstone for a still-born child after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or of a child up to the age of 18 years, a new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying to this fund, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
ii) For a double grave a headstone not exceeding 3 feet 6 inches in height by 3 feet in width61.00
iii) A vase41.00 - However, to apply for a vase for a still-born child after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or of a child up to the age of 18 years, a new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying to this fund, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
iv) A plaque not exceeding 18 inches square on a plinth abutting an existing headstone/instead of a headstone41.00 - However, to apply for a plaque for a still-born child after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or of a child up to the age of 18 years, a new law introduced in July 2019 means that this fee is eligible to be paid by the Children’s Funeral Fund for England. Spennymoor Town Council will take responsibility for applying to this fund, to ease the burden on bereaved parents.
Please note that in respect of Exclusive Rights of Burial (part 2) and Headstone and Monumental Inscription (part 3) prices are double if the deceased resides outside the township of Spennymoor
