Having been made aware of the allegations against Cllr Richard Smith, the Mayor of Ferryhill Town Council, Cllr Clive Maddison, Mayor of Spennymoor Town Council, and Deputy Mayor Cllr Paul Humble, have stated that they absolutely do not support the views of Richard Smith in any way.

Cllr Kevin Thompson, Spokesperson, would like to highlight that Spennymoor Town Council has a clear equality and diversity policy, and supports all sectors of the community equally and in doing so Spennymoor Town Council is appalled by the views published.

No further invitations will be extended to Richard Smith to attend any civic events in Spennymoor, nor will they be accepted if received from Ferryhill Town Council whilst he remains in office

We feel sure that Ferryhill Town Council will follow correct procedure to deal with the issues identified.
